What is facial acupuncture?

A gentle yet powerful practice has been gaining momentum – facial acupuncture. While traditional acupuncture has been known for its holistic healing properties, facial acupuncture offers a unique approach by targeting not only the body's internal imbalances, but also external imbalances that show on the skin.

The Essence of Facial Acupuncture

Facial acupuncture combines the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine with modern aesthetics. By stimulating specific points on the face and body with fine needles, this practice aims to improve circulation, promote collagen production and elastin, and restore harmony to the body's energy flow (known as Qi). Unlike surgical procedures or harsh chemical treatments, facial acupuncture is non-invasive and carries minimal risks or side effects.

How Facial Acupuncture Works

The process involves inserting hair-thin needles into specific acupuncture points on the face, as well as other areas of the body that correspond to overall health and wellness.

These needles stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, two essential proteins responsible for skin elasticity and firmness. By increasing blood flow to the face, acupuncture promotes cellular regeneration by bringing new oxygen and nutrients to the skin, leading to a more even complexion and a natural glow. Through targeted needle placement, facial acupuncture can relax tight facial muscles- helping to reduce TMJ tension and headaches which in return creates more harmony and sympathy in your facial tone.

Facial acupuncture also addresses underlying imbalances rooted deep within the body that may cause skin issues: stress, hormones, digestive issues, poor sleep, etc. It basically helps to reset and calm your nervous system, putting your body in a state of rest & digest. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, having Qi and blood flow without obstruction from other imbalances is essential for healthy glowing skin.

No down time!

There is no downtime with facial facial acupuncture. The most common risk of facial acupuncture is the chance of bruising - we are dealing with needles after all! The face has a slightly higher chance of bruising compared to the rest of the body as it has more vasculature and contains delicate skin. But don't worry, if a bruise does develop, it’s usually small and dissipates within a week.

The initial insertion of the needles may be slightly sensitive, however the sensation is over quick with only a mild prick to be felt. After the needles are inserted, you may feel warmness, tingling, or a heaviness in your face and throughout your body. This is the sensation of blood flow, nervous system stimulation, and your muscles reacting to the needles - Qi and Blood are flowing together and the magic begins! Once the body settles, it enters into a state of bliss. The treatment is painless and surprisingly very relaxing that you will most likely fall asleep. After treatment you will most likely feel sleepy and calm. Enjoy what we call the “acu-high” - you will feel like you took a 5 hour nap in a matter of 55 minutes. It’s truly the best side-effect you can experience.

Addition of Celluma LED Light Therapy

In conjunction with facial acupuncture, Celluma LED light therapy is added to further amplify the rejuvenating effects to the skin. This non-invasive treatment utilizes specific wavelengths of light to penetrate deep into the skin, stimulating cellular activity and promoting collagen production.

By incorporating Celluma LED light therapy into cosmetic acupuncture sessions, this allows for accelerated healing, reduced inflammation, and enhanced overall skin health. This LED dome is placed over the face as the needles sit for about 20-25 minutes as you rest.

Red light VS. Blue light

Red Light: Increases collagen and elastin production, improves skin’s firmness and resilience.

Blue Light: Diminishes acne bacteria, clears existing breakouts, restores skin’s healthy appearance.

How many session will I need?

For more significant and long-lasting results, a series of treatments spaced out over several weeks or months is required. This approach allows the body to respond to the cumulative effects of acupuncture, promoting collagen production, improving circulation, and addressing underlying imbalances within the body.

On average, a course of facial acupuncture consists of 5-10 sessions, with maintenance sessions scheduled periodically to sustain the benefits over time. Some individuals may require fewer or more sessions depending on their specific needs and goals.

The results of facial acupuncture becomes evident at 5 – 7 weeks as collagen production becomes most abundant around this time. The skin around the mouth and cheeks feel tighter and lines are beginning to soften. The soft tissue of the face feels firmer and denser and the face looks and feels plumper. Acne scars diminish, and breakouts reduce helping to even out hyper-pigmentation.
